Virtual Reality IP Asset Management and Licensing Program

BACKGROUND

Upstream reviewed the licensing and IP protection strategy for our client’s software, patents and technology in the virtual reality field, which related to 360- degree video capture and viewing. The client’s objectives were to increase revenue and to be more widely acknowledged as a software and media innovator.

Our Analysis

  • Over a three-month period, Upstream identified the full range of the company’s IP assets, and we re-evaluated their customer and licensing relationships.

  • In addition, we identified over 150 entities that promoted products and services that had relevance to our client’s patents, and also to their enabling technology.

  • Upstream re-structured the client’s entire software licensing program, and added a patent licensing components.

  • Based upon the increased value of their IP assets, the company secured bridge funding and was later acquired by a large media production company.

Outcome

Upstream assisted in securing licenses to the company’s software and its patents, enabling the client to develop collaborative relationships with a range of commercial partners.
