Glaukos stent for glaucoma treatment
Tiny New Device Helping Glaucoma Patients
A revolutionary new treatment for glaucoma is helping patients keep their eyesight. The Glaukos iStent, the smallest medical device approved by the FDA, is a one millimeter titanium tube that is put in the drainage channel in the eye, to reduce pressure build-up and keep eye fluid flowing. Until the approval of the iStent, eye drops and laser surgery were the only treatment options. Each of which has limitations, with repeat surgery often needed.
